Reimagined Mickey’s Toontown Opens in 2023 at Disneyland
Disney Parks Chairman, Josh D’Amaro, announced today that Mickey’s Toontown will undergo a large transformation scheduled to reopen in 2023. This reimagining of the Toontown area of Disneyland Park lines up with the previously announced 2023 opening of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.
Focusing on families with young children, Imagineers are working to create new opportunities for them to play inside the park. The land will feature new play experiences as well as open green spaces for guests to relax and unplug. Plus, children can play together in new ways at the park as they slide, spin, splash, touch, and listen.
“We are so excited to leverage Disney’s powerful brand, develop new stories and share even more magical experiences with our guests,” said D’Amaro. “The newly reimagined Mickey’s Toontown will be a welcoming place where families and younger guests can connect and play together in fun new ways.”
One of the new areas coming to Mickey’s Toontown is CenTOONial Park. This is the first space guests will see upon entering and two interactive play experiences will anchor this natural space.
Also, the center of CenTOONial Park features a fountain, designed for play, that will become an icon for Mickey’s Toontown. As its base, water tables will invite guests to play with the water and have a sensory experience. Plus, at night, the fountain will come to life in a unique spectacle.
A nearby dreaming tree will be inspired by the tree a young Walt Disney would daydream under in his hometown. Sculpted tree roots will provide an opportunity for children to play, crawl and explore, and rolling topography will offer rolling hills and a place to sit and dream.
Plus, the area will still be home to characters including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, and more.
